Retroshift’s patent pending design provides the latest option in integrated shifting systems for drop bar bicycles. The design has a different mix of attributes to the current offerings that we feel make it a good option for Cyclo-cross and perhaps other cycling disciplines.

Retroshift is not pretending to be a replacement for STI, ErgoPower, DoubleTap etc which are all systems we love and use ourselves but simply another option for cyclicst to consider for their particular needs. While it might not be a good fit for a rider who spends most of their time on the road in the drops for instance it might well prove to be on balance a great choice for that same riders’ cross season rig.

Each of the current systems has its particular attributes and advantages (and all too often heated debate to go with them!) ErgoPower with its ability to change multiple gears quickly, DoubleTap for its shifting ability while sprinting and STI the standard by which all have come to be judged. Retroshift brings with it a new mix of attributes that we hope will provide a welcome option for all.
Retroshift starts with a tried and tested Tektro brake lever, a favorite amoung the Single speed CX riders and provides a mounting for existing Shimano Bar-end or Down-tube shifters that results in a simple solution to shifting without any extra complexities. Ergonomics are superb thanks as much to blind luck as brilliance! Regardless the resulting system provides quick, easy and precise shifting across its range all in a system that can be easily serviced.
The design was given to a number of CX racers in the fall of 2011 for race testing and fared well with no breakages or issues. Indeed thanks to Erik Tonkin riding only his second race due to a broken bone in the early fall it chalked up its first Cat A win. Not bad for a system not yet even in production. Of course shifters don’t win races, only the rider can do that. What is of note however is that experienced pro riders such as Erik would choose to use Retroshift. We hope you will take a close look at Retroshift and perhaps even find it a good match for yourself.
